It hit 11 degree below zero (centigrade) in Drenthe last night
For the first time in more than two years severe frost hit the Netherlands, with Hoogeveen in the province of Drenthe seeing temperatures drop to about -11 degrees.
A “severe frost” occurs when the minimum temperature is lower than -10 degrees; “I thought it would end up at -9 degrees, but there was a spontaneous cloud clearing that caused the temperature to drop further,” says RTV Drenthe weatherman Roland van der Zwaag.
According to the weatherman, we can expect similar temperatures in the coming nights:
“Today the temperatures are not above freezing”, says Van der Zwaag. “It will be a maximum of -2 or -3 degrees”.
“The temperature will not rise much anymore. Fortunately there is no strong wind either. Furthermore, clouds are passing over and there is a possibility of a stray snow shower here and there.”
The sun is also likely to come out more often this week.
