UPDATE (10:19 a.m. Wednesday) The ambassador, who moved to America with his family as a child and served as a conservative in the House of Representatives prior to being appointed to his current position by president Trump, stopped by city hall where Groningen mayor Peter den Oudsten presented him with his birth certificate. Hoekstra also planned to visit his birthplace, the palatial Huize Tavenier on the Ubbo Emmiussingel.
OOG TV reports that the ambassador’s two-day visit was not formally announced. On Tuesday, Hoekstra met with local officials from the municipality, the province and other institutions at the provincial government building and Groningen city hall.
