A growing number of students at the University of Groningen use the Facebook page ‘RUG Confessions’ to share their sins and secrets. The page was launched on November 20th and since then it already shared around 450 anonymous messages from students.

Groningen is not the first university city with an Facebook confession booth: students in Oxford, Boston, London and Stanford all have similar online confessionals.

Confessions on the page range from stories about adultery and sex with professors to contemplations about daily life as a student and jokes about smoking in front of the university library (UB).

‘Confessions’ can be sent by anonymously filling in a Google Docs form. The moderator of the ‘RUG Confessions’ translates the messages if needed into English and posts them on the Facebook page.
