The RUG is joint fourth with Leiden
The University of Groningen (RUG) has been ranked in fourth place the Netherlands Choice Guide (Keuzegids) 2021 for undergraduate students. This year, the RUG has to co-habit with Leiden University in fourth position. The rankings are only for ‘classical universities’: that is to say not Hogeschools. The top three for this year are Nijmegen, Amsterdam (VU) and Utrecht.
The RUG has seven programs that have received the highest designation ‘top programme’. These are Archeology, English Language and Culture, Philosophy of a specific field; Global Responsibility and Leadership (at Campus Fryslân), Minorities and Multilingualism, Religious Studies and Theology.
This Keuzegids only concerns the bachelor’s programs; the masters are assessed separately, RTV Noord reports.
The editors of the Keuzegids have had to make adjustments to the assessment methods they use. For example, this year students were not asked for their opinion about their various study programs due to the Coronavirus- so really the rankings are completely removed from students’ real experiences. Instead, the Keuzegids team used last year’s feedback.
