Rolling Stones exhibition in Groninger Museum extended

The Exhibition was very well attended prior to the current lockdown

The Unzipped exhibition in the Groninger Museum is to be extended by one month, reports the GIC. The Rolling Stones exhibition will now stay in Groningen until March 28, says museum director Andreas Blühm.

The exhibition opened its doors on November 20, but had to close after a few weeks due to the lockdown. With the extension of the lockdown, the museum cannot receive guests until at least 9 February.

There is still a small chance that the exhibition could stay at the museum for even longer. The Groninger Museum has plenty of space available to accommodate it if needed, but Unzipped will in principle be exhibited from June in Marseille, France. All 400 objects will need to be transported, too.

The museum director has also said that the Groninger Museum needs more financial support, because otherwise it will go through its monetary reserves. There is a chance of major losses and the museum will enter into discussions with subsidy providers to look for solutions. Even in a worst-case scenario, however, Blühm does not think that the museum will have to close its doors completely.
