Roel Boomstra has won the world draughts title after beating defending champion Alexander Schwarzman. Boomstra, 28, claimed his third world title in international draughts, having last won the Championship in 2016 after defeating fellow Dutchman Jan Groenendijk.
Boomstra, who grew up in Emmen and lives in Groningen, scored a victory in a decisive tie-break over the Russian Alexander Schwarzman in 2019, too.
Roel Boomstra and Jan Groenendijk, 23, are part of the new generation of Dutch draughts players who compete successfully on the international arena.
