The additional security measures are meant to prevent trucks or any other vehicles driving into the crowds. Following attacks in Paris, London and Manchester in recent years, the municipality set up roadblocks during the festival for the first time last year.
Dagblad van het Noorden reports that there will be more roadblocks set up this year, but that is not due to any higher level of risk than last year. Assen mayor Marco Out says that the municipality is primarily interested in gaining more experience with setting up roadblocks.
The TT is an annual motorcycle race at the circuit in Assen, which is traditionally held on the last Saturday in June. A festival is held in the centre of Assen in the week leading up to the race.
