A large fire broke out at the Istanbul restaurant on Wijkstraat in Appingedam overnight.
Dagblad van het Noorden reports that the fire was first reported around 1 a.m. on Friday and that the fire fighters were able to put it out by 2:15.
Although the very old building was detached, it was very close to several other buildings on the street. The property is likely to be declared a total loss, and it is not yet clear how much damage was caused to the surrounded buildings.
The fire department called for residents living near the building to keep their doors and windows closed during the fire. Wijkstraat was closed until 5:45 this morning while emergency responders remained on scene.
