The location, which is especially popular among students in the city centre, will be closed for remodeling from Friday, 28 January at 17:00 until Wednesday, 16 February at 11:00.
“Customers will be really surprised,” says supermarket manager Pieter van der Heiden, as reported by the GIC. “The store will be almost one and a half times bigger, there will be wider aisles, easy-to-find departments and customers will soon have even more fresh produce options.”
Sushi bar
The supermarket will have a a large bakery and a new snack bar with a wide range of meats, cheeses and tapas. There will also be a sushi bar where professional chefs will make fresh sushi, sashimi and maki throughout the day. This will be the second Albert Heijn location in the city with the Sushi Daily department: the large AH at Helperplein 4 also features a sushi bar.
Gas-free
The number of self-scan checkouts in the new store will be expanded to 17. In addition, the store is committed to sustainability, among other things through a new installation that recovers heat. As a result, gas will no longer be used in the future.
The renovated store will be opened after the renovation by Gea Kramer, a local Instagram influencer with 13,000 followers known as the discount queen of Groningen.
