May 4 is ‘Dodenherdenking’, or remembrance day in the Netherlands
Each May 4 in the Netherlands those that died in the Second World War are remembered. At 20:00 in the evening, two minutes silence is being held, and wreaths will be layed at the national memorial in Amsterdam by the Royal Family and political figures.
In Groningen, meanwhile, the University of Groningen is holding its own remembrance activities: at the main entrance of the Academy Building in the Broerstraat in Groningen, a wreath was laid this morning to commemorate all the students and staff who died in World War II.
The wreath was laid by Rector Magnificus Cisca Wijmenga, on behalf of the Executive Board, reports the GIC.
