The Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics found that between 2013 and 2017, 26 people were murdered in Friesland. Per capita, that is the third highest rate nationwide.

Translation by Traci White

With 26 murders in four years, Friesland’s murder rate was .8 people per every 100,000 residents: proportionately speaking, only North Holland and South Holland had higher murder rates.

In that same period, there were 18 murders in Groningen and 15 in Drenthe: Drenthe had the second lowest number of murders between those years. The province of Zeeland had the fewest murders – 15 – over the past four years.

The provinces with the most murders were North-Holland (161), South Holland (154) and North Brabant (104). Between 2013 and 2017, there were 677 murders in the Netherlands altogether. Most of the victims – 465 – were male.
