On September 15, approximately 500 runners took part in the annual Campus Trail, a four-mile run through the Zernike Campus, breaking the record for most participants at the event.
Runners had the opportunity to re-visit or see the Zernike Campus for the first time during the run but it was for more than just those hoping to get a good workout in. The event was filled with other activities to ensure everyone left with more than tired legs.
There was an interactive game at WarmteStad, a photo booth, and even a run through the science bus of Science Linx. The event finished at the Campus Café in Brasserie Zernike where runners could enjoy the brand new protein ball, a vegetarian alternative to the bitterballen, to restore their energy.
With the resounding success of the 2023 edition and continuous support for the event, it is likely that Campus Trail will continue to shatter its own records with each passing year.
Groningen Mayor kicks race off
“It is great to be able to send so many participants to this sporting event,” said the Mayor of Groningen Koen Schuiling, who fired off the starting shot. “The Campus is not only buzzing with all the research, education and innovative companies, but also with these types of events that put the spotlight on and strengthen the vibrant community,”
“We are very happy that a record number of participants took part in the trail this year,” said Amber van der Schaaf, the communications and events manager of Campus Groningen. Campus Groningen works in collaboration with the University of Groningen and Hanze University, amongst others, to organize the event.
“The enthusiasm for this event grows over the years and we are very happy with the 23 company teams and all individual registrants who visit the Campus in a sporty way,” said Van der Schaaf.
