There will be several periods during January and February where fewer trains will be running from Groningen due to planned rail works, including during spring break.

On the 20th of January between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m., there will be no trains running on the Groningen-Leeuwarden, Groningen-Delfzijl and Groningen-Roodeschool lines due to works on the rails to add another fast train service between Groningen and Leeuwarden. OOG TV reports that Arriva will be operating rail replacement busses on the 20th.
In February, the entire week of spring break will be punctuated by limited rail service due to works on the Hereweg bridge:
16-20 February: no trains between Groningen-Veendam/Weener
16-18 Februari: no trains between Groningen-Hoogeveen
18-20 February: no trains between Groningen-Assen
20-24 February: no trains between Leeuwarden-Buitenpost
NS and Arriva will provide rail replacement busses throughout the week. Between the 16th and 19th, the municipality will be working day and night to remove rust from the steel sections of the bridge. In addition to rail service, the rust removal will also cause a lot of noise. The bike and pedestrian routes underneath the bridge will remain open during the works, and an informational meeting will be held about the operations at the Puddingfabriek at 5 p.m. on Thursday, 24 January.
