According to a statement from the police in an NRC article, a drug lab in Zuidlaren that was raided in April was also making crystal meth.
The lab was raided after bystanders reported smelling a strange odour emanating from a shed at the Bolwerk in Zuidlaren on 6 April. The police entered the building and found a drug lab. Six people were arrested in connection to the operation, including a 63-year-old man from Emmen and a male suspect from Vietnam.
Both main suspects are still in prison. Three women from Groningen and Loppersum and a man without a permanent place of residence have since been released.
Dutch police have expressed alarm about the increasing production of the hard drug: multiple meth labs have been shut down across the Netherlands in recent months. The drug is not widely used in the Netherlands: meth produced in the country is mainly exported to the eastern part of Germany and the Czech Republic.
