Queen Maxima to open new Drents Museum Frida Kahlo exhibition

Drenthe will be ‘rolling out the rainbow carpet’ for the queen

Translated by Thomas Ansell

The Drents capital will receive a royal guest this afternoon, as Queen Maxima will cut the ribbon at the opening of the Viva la Frida! exhibition at the Drents museum. As reported by RTV Drenthe, the Queen is due to arrive in Assen early this afternoon, and a ‘rainbow carpet’ is to be rolled out in her honour.

“We’re really honoured that she’s coming. Is there something similar between the Queen and Frida Kahlo? Yes, they are both very powerful women”, says Rosanne Feijen of the Drents museum. It should be noted that Kahlo was a devout Communist, and her last paintings included ‘Frida and Stalin’ (1954) and ‘Marxism Will Give Health to the Sick’ (1954).

Queen Maxima will be given a whistlestop tour of the exhibition by museum Director Harry Tupan, but won’t view all of the exhibits as there is ‘too much’.
