Public transport workers will strike in the morning of Wednesday 11th of September, unions have announced.
The strike will affect NS and Arriva trains along with Qbuzz busses in the morning between 04:00 and 08:00. These services are set to resume again from 08:00 onwards.
The strike has been announced because the current regulation where people with a heavy job can retire earlier, is about to expire as it was temporary. The regulation will cease to exist in the coming year. The unions FNV and CNV want the Dutch Government to keep this regulation permanently. Currently, bus drivers have to work until they’re 67 years and four months old.
Bus drivers often have to deal with aggression and physical threats. Bus times are usually also very close together and breaks are short, making bus drivers stressed and drive erratically. The unions therefore say being a bus driver is heavy work both physically and mentally.
The Dutch government is prepared to keep discussing this situation, according to NOS.
If you do have to use public transport during these times a different mode of transport is recommended. From 08:00 travellers should be able to use the bus again as usual but it’s still recommended to check the travel planner beforehand.
