Winschoten in the east of Groningen will be the new home of Holthausen and Hyzon’s truck factory
The province of Groningen will have a factory for the production of trucks that will run on green hydrogen, reports the GIC. Holthausen Clean Technology (of Hoogezand) and Hyzon Motors (of New York) announced on Tuesday that they will be relocating to the former Newexco building in Winschoten. The land had previously been earmarked for building a hospital.
It had already been announced that both companies were to join forces, though space for a production facility was a lingering question, with the current Holthauzen factory too small for scaled production.
Alderman Erich Wünker of the Gemeente Oldambt (VVD) is happy that the new company is settling in Winschoten: “In Hoogezand, Holthausen did not have enough space and so they had to move to a larger location. We were able to offer this in Oldambt, in the building where Newexco used to be.” The Alderman did not offer comment on whether a hospital will appear elsewhere in the Gemeente.
The advantage of the new building is that there is also enough space for a test track. The owners of Holthausen Clean Technology, Carl and Max Holthausen, signed the lease on Tuesday evening. Alderman Wünker says: “The intention is to make two thousand trucks a year in Winschoten. About a thousand employees are needed for this. A nice boost for employment in Oldambt!”
