Groningen’s Queer Pride Demonstration will be held on the Grote Markt on Sunday afternooon
By Thomas Ansell
Queer Pride Groningen will take place this Sunday, with a demonstration being held on the Grote Markt, from 13:00. The is intended to be as inclusive as possible, with special effort put into accessability- both in terms of what the event represents, and in features aimed at including everyone attending. A number of speakers will take to the podium, in both English and Dutch, as well as performances and chants.
It has been built around four themes: ‘no corporate involvement, an inclusive approach, pride as a protest; community-focused’. Attendees are asked to keep a 1.5-metre distance from eachother, and don (rainbow) facemasks.
The event is being organised by a number of student and representative organisations, including Groningen Feminist Network, Internationale Socialisten Groningen, Radical Cross Stitch Groningen, IDEA (Initiative for Diversity, Empowerment and Awareness) Groningen. More information is available on the event’s Facebook page.
Pride Leeuwarden
This year’s Pride Leeuwarden will take place on October 16, having been put back due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and will be the Netherlands’ official ‘Roze Zaterdag’ celebration: with a canal parade and an official theme, “City of Love”. More information is available here.
