The preparations for Groningen’s annual Noorderzon Festival of Performing Arts and Society are well underway.
Pedestrians and cyclists currently passing through Noorderplantsoen, Groningen’s central park, may have noticed the increased activity in the park. Various tents, stages, and scaffoldings are currently being set up in different areas in order to host this year’s performing arts festival.
The 33rd edition of Noorderzon will be held between the 17th and 27th of August 2023. Performances will be taking place in tents or on outdoor stages in the Noorderplantsoen central park, as well as at many locations in the inner city of Groningen (Noorderzon DownTown). Noorderzon typically attracts around 135,000 visitors.
Ticket sales for the international main programme have been open since June. However, tickets for the full festival programme will go live on Thursday 17th July at noon. If you want to experience this feast of international arts and culture you’ll want to head over to the ticket website soon as some performances are already sold out.
The organisers said they’ve made a number of changes to this year’s setup. In the northern part of the festival site on Noorderplantsoen there will be the open-air music stage Apollo and a small stage for music called Podium De Raaf. Towards the south is where you’ll find a large tent for the circus performance TERCES as well as a kids’ area. Tokens for the children’s programme and tickets for the container programme can only be purchased on location during the festival for the day itself. Food and drink spots will be spread across the park.
