Angry person plus police equals familiar result
After a police officer was seriously injured last week, police officers in Groningen were again harassed during curfew checks last night. A man insulted the police during one such check in the city of Groningen on Monday evening. As the officers confronted the man, a knife fell to the ground, the police reported on Instagram. As reported by the GIC.
Two motorcycle police officers were on surveillance duty in the city when they saw a man riding a bicycle without a light on a pavement. Since it was after 21:00 they tried to stop the man, who kept cycling. The police urged the man to stop. “He immediately became recalcitrant,” said the police.
Police said the man responded with word and gesture after being asked for his ID. “He thought it necessary to insult us too and he was arrested for that,” said the police. Something fell to the ground during the arrest, which the officers later noticed was a knife.
The man was taken to a detention van. The knife has been confiscated and the man has received a police report. Police reported the incident on Instagram. “It remains special that people immediately start to resist, while there is actually not much going on,” said the officers.
