Café and bar owners on the Kromme Elleboog in Groningen are understandably disgusted
The police in Groningen have carried out an arrest after a massive brawl in the city center of Groningen, on Saturday evening. A group of about 35 hooligans supporting FC Groningen, and the German team Arminia Bielefeld came to blows. The police are not ruling out more arrests. A first suspect was arrested on Sunday evening.
During the fight on the Kromme Elleboog, destruction was caused and a window was broken. Images on social media show patio chairs, tables and bicycles flying through the air. As reported by the GIC.
The brief, but very fierce confrontation between two groups of hooligans caught both the police and city of Groningen completely by surprise. The police thought that there might be disturbances on Sunday, prior to the game.
An emergency order was issued on Sunday, and supporters were not welcome at the game.
The police have announced that an investigation is still ongoing.
