A special police unit was dispatched on Tuesday evening to detain a 47-year-old man from the Groningen town of Heiligerlee.

The man from the eastern part of the province of Groningen was suspected of shooting at a residence in Winschoten earlier that day.

The Groningen Internet Courant reports that the police received a call on Tuesday of shots fired at a home on the Lekstraat in Winschoten. When the officers arrived, they determined that no one had been injured and that the shooter had fled the scene.

The residents of the home informed the police that the recognised the shooter. The shooting was allegedly prompted by a business dispute.

Later that evening, a 47-year-old man was detained by the police unit in his home in Heiligerlee.

The police investigation of the incident is ongoing, and a forensics team is inspecting the home in Winschoten.
