Newspapers have been predicting a possible reopening of hairdressers, pub terraces and some sports facilities
The Northern Netherlands is eagerly awaiting a press conference to be held on Wednesday evening at 19:00 by Prime Minister Mark Rutte, which will be available to watch via NPO (and the NOS Youtube channel), and summarised in English by The Northern Times in the morning.
Numerous media reports suggest that ministers would like to give various professions and branches more clarity regarding the general movement away from wide-scale quarantining. Hairdressers are mentioned by name, but also physiotherapists and operators of terraces in the hospitality industry.
The ministers most involved in handing the Coronavirus are currently debating and considering loosening regulations. The cabinet is expected to take a decision on the possible reopening of hairdressing and physiotherapy practices. The cabinet has asked the experts of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) for advice on this, which met on Monday, as reported by RTV Noord today.
The cabinet has also asked for advice on the use of face masks in public transport if trains and buses are to be opened up (at the moment they are used only by people in vital professions). In addition, the opening of terraces in the hospitality industry, and a limited opening of sports facilities are being discussed.
This week, ministers hope to provide more clarity about the steps that will be taken in the near future, to give Dutch residents a little more perspective.
