Xolo the dog, the Little Giant Girl and the Diver will act out their story “Big Skate in the Ice”, a custom-made story for Leeuwarden, during the Royal de Luxe marionette street theatre performance on the 17th through the 19th of August.

The Northern Times’ Traci White is there covering the event, so be sure to check back on this photo blog for new photos throughout the weekend.

                      Friday morning

The Diver emerges from the water at the Westerkade in Leeuwarden on Friday morning. The Diver, The Little Giant Girl and Xolo the Dog will tell the Frisian inspired story “Big Skate in the Ice” in Leeuwarden on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as part of the Capital of Culture 2018 year.
Water pours off the of the diver’s feet as he is hauled out of the water with a crane on Friday morning.
Spectators photograph the scene as the Diver is hauled out of the water on Friday morning.
Thousands of spectators and dozens of performers gather in Leeuwarden as the Diver is hoisted out of the water on Friday morning.

The Diver sails away on the Stanfries X from Leeuwarden with the Achmea tower in the background.
The Little Giant Girl, surrounded by smoke, looks toward the crowd assembled along the Dokkumer Ee as the giants leave Leeuwarden.
