In the annual Café Top 100 by Misset Horeca, 14 cafes across Groningen, Drenthe and Friesland made the list.

The list included two cafes in Drenthe, five in Groningen and seven across Friesland. The best scoring café in the north is PéGé in Gieten, which came in 17thplace. The highest scoring café in Groningen was De Toeter, which came in 18th place, and De Markies in Leeuwarden was the best in Friesland (in 26th place overall).
Although the list is a strong indication of the quality of an eatery, it is not necessarily comprehensive: only businesses that pay to be evaluated are included. The eligible businesses go through multiple rounds of evaluations by mystery diners and a jury of experts.
The 2018 list was announced on Monday in Hilversum. This is the 25th edition of the list. The best café in this year’s edition was Huppel the Pub in The Hague. Misset Horeca also curates lists of the best coffee shops (the ones actually selling coffee) and the best 100 terraces in the Netherlands.
