Groningen Airport Eelde had significantly more passengers in the first two months of 2018 in comparison to the same period last year.
There were 18 percent more travellers using the airport in January and 9 percent more in February. In total, roughly 24,000 people passed through the airport in the first two months of this year.
Much of the growth is attributable to flights to the Canary Islands. The number of passengers on the flights to London, Copenhagen and Gdansk has also risen.
Additional flights in March
From 25 March onward, Groningen Airport Eelde will be operating quite a few new flights. There will be three flights to London, two flights to Copenhagen and one flight to Munich each day. Flights to Nice and Ibiza were also recently added. During the high season, the airport handles 49 flights a week.
Estonian-based airline Nordica, which operates a flight to Copenhagen from Eelde, is planning to add flights to at least one new destination starting in May. The airline has yet to announce what that new destination is.
