The Parkrun scheme is a free weekly event where participants are asked to complete a 5KM course, running or walking, with friends or by themselves!

Parkrun has returned to Groningen’s Stadspark, with a meeting each Saturday morning at 09:00. The event series was founded in the UK in 2004, and now people gather at over 2,000 locations in 22 countries each week to run or walk a 5KM course.
The entire system is run by volunteers, who are responsible for setting the course, timing the runners, and more. With Parkrun Groningen having been on a near 2-year Coronavirus hiatus, the organisers are also looking for more volunteers to help out! Anyone wanting to volunteer can send an email to the Parkrun team.
The current record for a 5KM run is held by Andrew Baddely (who is, to be fair, a professional athlete), with a time of 13 minutes and 48 seconds. Think you can beat him? Or just fancy getting out in Groningen’s largest park on a Saturday morning? Sign-up is here.
