Significant works will be taking place

Oude Kijk in ‘t Jatstraat was closed this morning to cars, and will remain so until May, reports the Groninger Internet Courant.
The street will have significant works taking place to change water and gas pipes. The closure is between Visserstraat (next to the canal ring), and Broerstraat (where the RUG Academy building and Library is). Oude Kijk in ‘t Jatstraat will remain open both for bicycles and pedestrians. Car traffic is being re-routed via the Oude Ebbingestraat. It is expected that the work will be finished on May 1.
Both the water and gas pipes under the street are being replaced, and to minimise disruption it will be closed in 50-metre pieces. Each evening the road will be left in passable conditions.
There’s large amounts of road-works going on in Groningen’s city centre, with cables being replaced underneath the Kleine Kromme Elleboog until recently, and similar work taking place on the neighbouring Grote Kromme Elleboog from today.
Across the city yellow paving stones are being replaced, as they pose a slipping risk. At the moment this work is occurring on the Steentilstraat and at Koude Gat. Next week work will begin on the Carolieweg, whilst the A-Kwatier is also experiencing large amounts of road-works.
