The future of women’s health products is here! Phia offers an innovative, and environmentally friendly alternative to tampons and pads.

By Adriana Dancu

Phia is a Dutch menstrual cup company, which will be launching innovative, sustainable, and eco-friendly menstrual cups this winter. Phia was founded by Sophia Peterson, who is originally from the United States. She came to the Netherlands through the Netherlands startup visa program  to work with Campus Groningen.

Phia brings variety to the Dutch market, being the first menstrual cup with a unique design created in the Netherlands. By making the cups environmentally friendly, comfortable, and easy to use, the company’s goal is to make a positive societal impact regarding women’s health products.

Unique design

Traditional menstrual cups are bell-shaped, which makes them difficult, and uncomfortable to use. The innovative design of the Phia Cup makes it easy for tampon users to make the switch, and is more comfortable for daily wear.

Easy to use

Even though menstrual cups have many benefits, people can find them rather uncomfortable and more difficult to use than tampons.

To make sure that Phia Cup offers the best of both worlds, Sophia created Phia Cup to be both comfortable and as easy to apply as tampons.

“Although I loved the idea behind menstrual cups, I struggled to find the perfect cup. Inserting and removing a cup quickly and effortlessly was one of my biggest priorities, so I decided to create Phia Cup. I was used to using tampons in the past, so I wanted to create a cup that mimicked that application, making it easier for other women to make the switch as well,” says Sophia.

The thin triangle walls of the cups allow them to collapse to a small size, and the flat base allows the cup to be inserted by pushing up, while the handle can be pulled down, which helps in removing the cup easily. These features are similar to the insertion and extraction of tampons, which makes the switch from traditional tampons to Phia Cup easy.

Over seventy women including two doctors tested Phia Cup, and their feedback was very positive.

Visit the website for more information, and to buy an Phia Cup when they come to market this Winter!
