The perils of overconfidence
The risk level in the Groningen security region (concurrent with the Province) has again been raised to ‘worrying’; level two on the Dutch government’s risk scale. Two weeks ago the Province was moved down to level one, but with the number of infections is rising again, this has been changed. 108 new infections were confirmed in the municipality of Groningen on Tuesday: by way of comparison: a week earlier, on June 29, there were only 12 new cases in 1 day. As reported by the GIC.

There is also some good news, though: no new deaths and hospitalisations have been reported. Most of the new infections have been confirmed in younger people, who are less likely to suffer the worst effects of the Coronavirus.
Groningen is currently in the top 5 of municipalities with the most infections reported last week. The municipality of Baarle-Nassau (on the Dutch/Belgian border) leads the way with 204.1 new positive tests per 100,000 inhabitants in a week, followed by Halderberge in Noord-Brabant (171.7), Alblasserdam just outside of Rotterdam (153.7), Groningen (149.4) and Enschede (147.2).
