A police officer was seriously injured in a stabbing incident on Van Houtenlaan in the city of Groningen on Wednesday evening. The cop was stabbed in the face. According to the police, the injuries are life-threatening. The perpetrators are still on the run.
The officer spoke to two boys on a bicycle in the Helpman neighborhood around 10 p.m. They might have been breaking curfew. Almost immediately, the officer was stabbed in the face. Another colleague got injured on his leg. He left the hospital after treatment.
The perpetrators immediately fled on foot. Several units and emergency services immediately arrived on the scene. The stabbed officer was stabilized, after which he was rushed to hospital.
The investigation has secured traces on the spot. There is no sign of the perpetrators. Burgernet has been deployed, but that has not yet resulted in the arrest of the perpetrators. The perpetrators are two white young men in dark clothes. One of them was wearing a rolled up cap. The other perpetrator has curly hair and he carried a backpack.
