Groningen’s Grote Markt will be hosting the town’s official New Year’s Eve celebrations.
If you’re looking for a way to usher in the brand new year without the burden of having to organise your own festivities, why not join the ones already planned for Groningen Telt Af (Groningen Counts Down)?
Things will kick off on December 31st at 20:00 and the celebrations are expected to wrap up by 01:30. The event will feature live music of different genres.

Entry to the event is free. The event will be in Dutch.
There will also be a 360-degree light show from the Forum’s rooftop with powerful lamps and lasers. The light show will be played ten times between 18:00 and 01:30.
Fireworks-free zone and pickpockets
Residents have been asked not to bring fireworks with them to the event since the city centre will be a fireworks-free zone. Event organisers have also advised attendees to be weary of pickpockets that may be active during the event. Phones and valuables should be secured properly and one should avoid putting any items in back pockets. If you wish to report a theft, you can file a police report.
