The NS is conducting a test between Groningen and Zwolle this week with six special “one and a half meter trains”
The carriages have been adapted in such a way that passengers can have sufficient distance around them, in accordance with Coronavirus regulations. Foil screens have been put in the trains, and travelers are warned by stickers to keep a sufficient distance. ‘Do not sit here’ signs have been placed on a large number of the seats, so that there is enough space between each passenger, reports the GIC.
The NS wants to first look at how passengers react to the measures for a week, and as to whether passengers comply with the new rules. If this first test is successful, it will be extended to other routes. It is possible that one-way entrances/exits will be used on the trains. If the test is successful, the measures will be implemented in all trains.
At present, the number of train passengers has declined sharply by about 90 percent. The NS has therefore deployed a special timetable during the ongoing outbreak.
