PM Rutte is likely to announce stricter Coronavirus measures after a spike in infections
With Coronavirus figures across the Netherlands spiking, particularly in the 20-30 year old age category, and some pubs and clubs even taking matters into their own hands and closing for safety purposes, the Dutch PM Mark Rutte will hold another Coronavirus press conference this evening. As reported by RTV Drenthe.
No more clubbing, cancelled festivals
The Dutch government cabinet will make its final decisions on Friday afternoon about the possible tightening of the Coronavirus measures, with trusty ‘Hague insiders’ reporting earlier that the cabinet is considering canceling multi-day events. It is possible that the hospitality industry will be asked to lower the number of people that they admit to pubs, bars, and clubs, too.
Earlier this week, the cabinet requested an emergency advice from the OMT, now that the number of infections has risen rapidly in recent days. The figures show that especially young people are testing positive. The elderly are on average sicker from the Coronavirus, but are far more likely to be vaccinated- at present there has been no associated rise in hospitalisations.
