The Water Agencies in both Groningen and Friesland are asking people to minimise their water user
The Groniner Waterbedrijf is starting to get a little worried about an enormous increase in water consumption in the Province. Saturday saw 28 million cubic metres more than usual used. The Wetterskip Fryslân has asked farmers to hold back on irrigation in daylight hours, too, reports the Omrop Fryslân.
In a new video, the Waterbedrijf explains why we should use water sparingly. “Water may not be expensive, but it is precious. Enjoy, but don’t waste it. You can contribute every day by consciously handling water; especially on hot days like these. In this way we retain enough water for now and later. Can you help? ”. As reported by GIC.nl.
On a normal Saturday, the Waterbedrijf in Groningen supplies about 94,000 cubic meters of water across the province. Last Saturday, consumption was 122,000 cubic meters, which is 30 percent more than normal.
Residents are now being asked to only use necessary water at peak times, so that no problems arise in the water pressure. Residents are also being asked not to water the garden in the morning between 06:00 and 09:00, and in the evening between 06:00 and 10:00. People are also being asked not to wash cars, fill swimming pools, or do laundry at peak times too.
The Wetterskip Fryslân has said that it will be trying to maintain water levels in canals and rivers, and that due to the ongoing heatwave residents must try to be as careful as possible with their water use.
