Groningen has the fewest number of cases
Over the weekend, the number of patients suffering from the COVID-19 Coronavirus in Groningen’s Intensive Care units dropped to 47, from 54 on Friday. Unfortunately, the number of positively tested infections increased by seven over the weekend, from 299 to 306. Two Groningen patients were admitted to hospital, reports the GIC.
With 306 infections, Groningen is responsible for 0.9 percent of the total number of tested corona patients in the Netherlands. This makes Groningen the least affected province in the country, followed by Drenthe (389 infections / 1.2 percent) and Friesland (466 infections / 1.4 percent).
Until Sunday, 67 patients were put into Intensive Care. The amount had stayed steady for a few days, but two more people from the municipality of Oldambt were recently hospitalised. No further deaths have been announced.
Over the weekend, 20 patients left Groningen’s hospitals, with 107 patients now hospitalised. A significant part of that comes from other regions. The number of patients in a special nursing ward fell from 73 to 60 between Friday and Sunday.
Across the country, the number of infections tested increased from 32,206 to 32,655 between Friday and Sunday. The number of hospital admissions increased by 239 to 9,704 in two days. 225 new deaths were recorded over the weekend, bringing the total to 3,684.
It should be noted that these figures are often under-reported over weekends, and also that the actual number (including asymptomatic and mild cases) of patients suffering from the outbreak could be much higher due to testing limits.
