Polls opened at 7:30 this morning for local elections in 40 northern municipalities stretching from Westerwolde to Harlingen and from Coevorden to Hogeland. The polls remain open until 9 p.m.
34 political parties registered their representatives for the elections in Drenthe, while in Groningen, 16 national and local parties fielded their candidates for the municipal councils.
