Northern IT companies to train qualified candidates from southern Europe

A coalition of northern organisations has come up with a plan to find qualified candidates for open IT positions in the region: recruit them from southern European countries.

Translation by Traci White

The Groninger Internet Courant reports that IT network organisation Samenwerking Noord, IT Academy Europe and the International Welcome Center North will be working together to offer highly-educated graduates courses, traineeships and, eventually, jobs.

Although the IT sector is thriving in Groningen, Drenthe and Leeuwarden, it remains difficult to find qualified candidates to fill vacancies in the region. The three participating organisations have created a Global Talent IT Traineeship programme to recruit tech talent from Greece, Italy and other southern European countries.

International student organisation AIESEC (Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales) is also working to bring employers and potential employees together.

After arriving in the Netherlands, the IT specialists will enrol in a three-month-long programme at IT Academy Noord Nederland to prepare them to work in the northern IT sector, including language and culture lessons. Graduates of the programme will work 32 hours a week for a year in the local industry.

The project will officially launch on 21 June in Groningen during a kick-off meeting at Het Kasteel.
