Hospitals in Groningen, Drenthe and Friesland were caring for 44 COVID-19 patients on Thursday, down from 62 on January 24. Since a peak around mid-December, northern hospitals have reported fewer new cases each week.
Thursday’s number includes 16 COVID patients receiving intensive care, the Dagblad van het Noorden reports, citing the regional acute care association Roaz.
34 COVID patients receive treatment in isolation wards: 14 in Groningen, 9 in Drenthe and 5 in Friesland.
The country has seen an easing of restrictions after Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Tuesday announced details of the gradual lifting of a strict nationwide coronavirus lockdown, which began in December.
