The countdown to the annual Noorderzon Festival is officially on. Construction of the festival grounds in the Noorderplantsoen park is set to begin Monday, August 12th. As reported by the Groninger Internet Courant, the festival organizers aim to create a complete “village” within ten days, encompassing performance venues, bars, terraces, art installations, and the iconic, meter-long string lights.
The northern section of the festival grounds will soon host the Pollux Spiegeltent, alongside the smaller Nova tent, which will feature conversations, lectures, and literary events. Across from these, the open-air music stage Apollo will provide free music performances every evening. Additionally, the northern area will include the terraces Paradijsvogel, De Raaf, and Podium De Raaf, offering four free concerts and activities daily.
In the southern part of Noorderplantsoen, there will be a dedicated area for children known as De Speelweide, as well as the Callisto music stage, where multiple free concerts will be held each day. The Castor performance venue will also be located in this area.
Returning this year are the popular container islands scattered across the park, offering small-scale performances. Throughout Noorderplantsoen, local vendors will provide a diverse selection of food and drinks, and various art installations will be on display.
The Noorderzon Festival of Performing Arts & Society will take place from Thursday, August 22 to Sunday, September 1. Over these eleven days, Noorderplantsoen and several locations in Groningen’s city center will serve as the stage for a program featuring international, national, and local acts.
