The majority of the grounds of the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen will become no smoking zones as of 3 April.
According to RTV Drenthe, the hospital was one of 26 parties in the municipality of Assen to sign a covenant to create no smoking zones. Hospital staff say that they want to help create an environment where children can grow up without being exposed to smoking.
A red line which designated the smoking area in front of the hospital has been erased and ashtrays have already been removed. From April onward, a small sheltered area in the car park will be available for patients and visitors, and hospital staff will have to smoke at the back of the building.
