From Wednesday, 31 July through 7 August, there will no trains running between Groningen, Veendam, Weener and Assen due to construction works.

RTV Noord reports that the train service will be disrupted for a week due to the installation of the tunnel at Helperzoom, which is part of the wider ring road works in the city. The tunnel was originally planned to be moved into place last summer, but the operation was postponed due to soil instability.
There will be a rail replacement bus service to transport travelers between the city and the three impacted destinations, which will mean longer travel times.
