RTV Drenthe reports that online auction site Catawiki will not face any consequences for auctioning alcohol without a liquor license.
The Council of State ruled in the appeal from Koninklijke SlijtersUnie. Last year, the Royal Dutch Retailers Association accused the Assen-based Catawiki of selling liquor without a proper license. After multiple hearings and appeals, the RDRA lawsuit was deemed unfounded.
Catawiki functions as a channel where sellers and buyers can find one another online, but does not technically sell the items featured on their site directly. The site has a separate category for wine and whiskey sales, which covers champagne, port, rum, whiskey and wine.
