Certain parts of Drenthe have notably low infection rates, too
The number of tested infections in the province of Groningen has not increased since Friday, holding stable at 333 for a number of days. Similarly, the amount of hospital admissions has not increased since Friday, remaining at 71, reports the GIC via the GGD Groningen. The number of deceased corona patients in the province is now at 14.
In Friesland, the GGD reports four new confirmed cases of the virus, but no more admissions to hospital. Unfortunately, two more people have died in Friesland, making a total of 61. Meanwhile, the GGD in Drenthe refers to the RIVM’s infection spread map, which shows low levels of infection in large conurbations such as Assen, which has twelve people in hospital, but an overall infection total of only around 10 people (the RIVM map gives the total as 17.5 patients per 100,000 residents, and the population of Assen is around 67,000).
“The number of detected infections has been unchanged for several days, so we can say that the spread of the virus in our province seems to be stabilising,” said Groningen’s GGD in a press release. “It cannot be ruled out that new infections will be diagnosed in the coming days / weeks and great vigilance remains required.”
In the joint test location for the UMCG, GGD Groningen and Certe, a total of 1,424 healthcare workers from outside hospitals have already been tested in the past six weeks, 91 of which were positive. These employees have been advised to stay at home, so that the risk of infection within healthcare institutions is controlled as well as possible. A total of 188 people were tested at the test site last week, of which 5 were found positive (2.7%). “We are also seeing the infection rate decrease compared to the previous weeks,” says the GGD.
Incidentally, the UMCG has now tested nearly 2,500 employees, bringing the number of tested healthcare employees to around 4,000 for the Province.
There are now 38,416 infections across the country, which is 1,881 more than last Friday. The number of hospital admissions rose by 328 to 10,609 in four days. The virus has killed at least 4,566 people so far, 277 more than Friday. Due to King’s Day it may be that figures are only passed on later and that the number of deaths and possibly also hospital admissions may suddenly be a lot higher on Wednesday.
