Bommen Berend is a Groninger celebration held each year on August 28, to celebrate the city holding out against the forces of the Bishop of Utrecht in 1672. Each year a number of festivities are traditionally held, you guessed it, this year is going to have a somewhat smaller celebration.
As reported by the Dagblad van het Noorden, the Ossenmarkt in the city will hold a several-day funfair to commemorate the event.
The funfair is often held on the Grote Markt, but thanks to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic a smaller-scale event is to be held this year. Those that live on and around the Ossenmarkt have been informed of the fair’s arrival, and from Monday 23 to Sunday 29 August Stadjers will be welcomed to the fair.
