Continuing with the theme of ‘rising up against non-existent oppression’
Translated by Thomas Ansell
On Saturday evening, as the new curfew fell across the Netherlands, a number of hooligans exploded into violence in Amsterdam and Eindhoven with smaller instances of mindlessness in Tilburg, Stein, Roermond; and Apeldoorn. As reported by the NOS.
Hubert Bruls, both the Mayor of Nijmegen and the chair of the Safety Regions Association, said that the “events really went beyond all limits”. Bruls is concerned that legally-allowed protests against Coronavirus rules have been taken over by ‘Corona-hooligans’. Naturally it was left to those that cannot work from home to clean up the mess.
The Mayor of Eindhoven, John Jorritsma, said “this wasn’t a demonstration. This was excessive violence, damage, and laziness. Hooligans came from across the country, and had organised with eachother on social media.”
Outgoing Dutch PM Mark Rutte, highlighted that 99 percent of Dutch residents complied with the new regulations, says the NOS. In Amsterdam, 27 people have been arrested for the rioting, seven of whom are under 18 years old.
Perhaps the most uncomfortable viewing will be scenes from Enschede in the east of the Netherlands, where a number of rioters attempted to gain entry to the Medisch Spectrum Twente hospital, and pelted the building with stones.
The head of the ChristenUnie political party, Gert-Jan Segers, has today blamed FvD dog-whistler and all-round carbuncle Thierry Baudet for inciting the rioters. Baudet, who is from an ultra-wealthy background and attended the elitist Leiden University, yesterday tweeted ‘only together can we get our freedom back’.
The Northern Netherlands generally avoided the rioting, however in Urk, the ultra-religious town that used to be an island, two Covidiots burned down a testing centre run by the local GGD. Police in Urk have arrested the two suspects, as well as having handed our ‘tens’ of fines, reports the NOS.
