The Paterswoldseweg in Groningen is the most important railway crossing in the city
But for over a year, motorists have been unable to use it, due to the construction of a tunnel. From next Friday, everything will be ready, and the tunnel will officially open for car traffic.
Faster, easier and safer
The construction of the tunnel was necessary because more fast trains will start running between Groningen and Leeuwarden from the end of next year.
Trains and buses can cross over the tunnel after the opening, whilst traffic and pedestrians can pass through the tunnel quickly and safely. Waiting for level crossings is now a thing of the past.
The tunnel makes the city even more accessible, more attractive and, above all, more hospitable, reports the province of Groningen.
