The arrival of the new mayor – Koen Schuiling (60) – at the Town Hall was photographed by Henk Tammens on Monday morning.
Koen Schuiling (VVD) was until recently mayor of Den Helder. He knows the city of Groningen very well because ten years ago he was an alderman for economic affairs. Schuiling is the successor of Peter den Oudsten, who said goodbye last Friday as mayor of Groningen because he retired.
A new head of the Gemeente Groningen was also announced this week: Christien Bronda will take over as ‘Gemeentesecretaris’ from Diana Starmans on 1 January, 2020. Bronda was previously the Director of Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland (SNN), and has also held high-up positions at the Gemeente Amsterdam and Gemeente Zwolle. She has also worked for the Dutch national ministry for Social Affairs and Working.
