The bicycle flat at the Central Station has been closed since Friday the 17th of January as renovations at the central station progress
GIC reported that cyclists from the south side of the city can park their bicycles in temporary bicycle racks on the Achterweg. They can then reach the station via the blue stairs.
The bicycle flat, a two-storey metal tower with room for 1,300 bikes, had to be dismantled to make space fora depot that will house parts of the historic station’s roof. There is no room for a new bicycle parking facility on the north side, which is why 1,000 extra racks are temporarily being placed on the south side. The area where the racks are located is paved and there is also lighting.
From 16 May to 5 July, there will be no or fewer trains to and from the Central Station. During this period, there will be extra parking space at Groningen Europapark station. After this train-free period, travellers can reach the station from the south side via the new passenger tunnel.
The temporary parking facility will remain open until the new bicycle tunnel and underground bicycle parking facility under the Central Station are also open. This is expected to be in the second half of 2026. Upon its completion, there will be room for 16,500 bicycles at the Central Station. By comparison, there are around 11,000 bicycle spots at Amsterdam’s central station.
