Despite Groningen’s large coastline, there aren’t that many places to go for a beach day in the Province
The new city beach in Delfzijl was opened to the public this weekend, meaning that Groningen now has both a beachfront and sunny boulevard. The beach is located next to the Eemshotel, reports the GIC.
The beach is accessible via a new bridge, and means that a day at the sea is now available within a half-hour journey of the city of Groningen. It is also part of the new renovations of Delfzijl, which has suffered with an image problem in recent years, as well as the exodus of most of its young people. The beach, as well as new architecture, shops, and restaurants are hoped to make Delfzijl a true destinaiton this summer.
